Hoi Bart,
Dit vond ik via google.co.za misschien helpt dit een beetje?
You must have owned it in your name for a minimum of 1 year or is it 6 months (proof required that MUST state the value of the vehicle).
You may not sell the vehicle in SA for 2 years after you have brought it in.
1 car per family only.
If you are a SA citizen, i.e. you did not relinquish your SA citizenship or formally emigrate you will pay customs duties & VAT.
If you are a foreigner emigrating for the 1st time or a former SA citizen returning for the 1st time after relinquishing citizenship (i.e. you completed and submitted the relevant documentation) or having formally emigrated previously, then legislation says that this duty & VAT will be refunded to you once you are considered a SA resident.
It must be a right-hand drive vehicle, no lefties will be allowed unless they were registered before 1st Jan 2000.
You have to have been out of the country for at least 6 months prior to your final return in order to qualify for duty-free import (in all respects, not only cars & employed).
Returning residents who originally exported the vehicle from South Africa may import it duty and VAT free provided they have the original export documents.
If there is no proof of purchase, three (3) evaluations on the vehicle must be obtained from motor dealers.
groetjes uit een warm en nog steeds droge Kyalami
